Ipca Laboratories Ltd, has acquired 'Isordil' (Isosorbide dinitrate), a cardiovascular brand from multinational company - Wyeth Limited. Isordil is a Rs. 2.5-crore nitrate brand.

Isosorbide dinitrate is directed at decreasing the myocardial oxygen demand and increasing the myocardial oxygen supply. Isosorbide dinitrate is indicated for the prevention of angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease.

Ipca has acquired all the rights of Isordil as well as the License for manufacturing know-how. Isordil will be manufactured at Ipca's Silvassa facility.

Mr. A K Jain, Executive Director, in his press statement mentioned that Ipca has acquired Isordil to strengthen its cardio-vascular portfolio. "We are a dominant player in the cardio-vascular market with 28 percent of our Rs. 210-crore domestic sales coming from cardiac products. While, we have a broad range of products, we didn't have an angina product."

He further mentioned that Ipca has plans to launch line extensions, like mono-nitrate and a combination of mononitrate with Aspirin, in the domestic market. The brand extensions will be launched in two months. With the extensions and aggressive marketing, we expect the brand to grow to Rs. 6 crores in about a year's time.

According to Firstcall India Equity, country head VVLN Sastry, the brand has the potential to double its revenues with proper position and penetration into various geographical locations.
